The pattern of the tracks will also tell the sex of the white tail deer.

The male deer has big tracks as well as the back hooves will be generally be inside the front hooves. This is opposite to the doe’s track and it helps to know what sex of the deer you are hunting. Doe’s or buck’s each as different way of responding to the predator.

The basic set of equipment needed for the whitetail deer hunting is very important to know as that make or mar your chances of being successful.

That said there are a number of small things that you have to be very careful about.

These are the lighter, the flashlight and a rope. Apart form these are a lot of things that are there which can be construed as the essential items in your backpack which I have already listed in my earlier post.

If you are using the bow to hunt then get good quality bow hunting equipment. Make sure that you sue your off season to practice hunting with your rifle or your bow and arrow. Also make sure that you have the binoculars which are easy on your hands. Use them a lot before you venture with them in to the woods as then it will be not easy on your hands and the doing the adjustments there in the hunting area may cost a good buck or two.

Additional Note : Licenses and permits may be needed for in a lot of places and for that reason make sure that you have the state regulations handy to make sure that you apply for the license and permits before hand. The most important is a hunter’s arsenal is the essential items that he or she should carry. There are some things that will always be very important and will need to be there when you are doing your preparation for whitetail deer hunting season

Scents is one area where you need to careful as the deer are generally very much aware of the scents and that will mean that they can easily be the aware of your presence if you do not have a scent neutralizer.

The major thing to know about the whitetail deer is that these deer are very much active at night and they have their mating and mingling activities all during the night. By night it is not exactly night by it is meant that they are very active at dawn and also very active at dusk.

This is true about the mature bucks as well.

The deer will sleep during the daytime. These deer though are never actually asleep and they are kind of dozing off so that they are aware of the predators as and when they come. That is the reason that when you do whitetail deer hunting you have to be very careful as to what time of the day you do that. Apart from the fact that these deer never sleep in the same spot twice. They are smart enough to know that some other animal can easily smell their scent and come to hunt for them.

Now the major thing to note is that the deer that is male deer or the back will always travel together in a band and will almost never go along with a group of female deer or does as we call them. However the young does or the fawns as they are called are known to be together with the does for a long period of time. They will also have white spots on their body which will mean that they can not be easily seen. Gradually that spots are gone as they grow as then they can easily run fast and save themselves and have no reason for a natural camouflage.

The breeding season is between October and December and the mating season around December and January. The gestation period for the does is around the 7 months.

In general the deer weigh around 100 to 250 pounds. In some case they may be of about 300 – 350 pounds. That is why while going for whitetail deer hunting you should make sure that you have the best of the ropes to drag them.

The Virginia whitetail was the first whitetail deer to be introduced in America. In the early 1880′s the whitetail deer population was only about 5, 00,000. But it has now increased to a good number. The reason for that increase because of the increased efforts from the government for the safety and the conservation of these deer. The government enacted two laws which are the Lacy Act and the second was the establishment of the several departments of conservation in the country.

The total population of the whitetail deer in the US is considered to be about 25 million. The whitetail can easily coexist with the man and that is the reason that even with the rampant urbanization of the villages and the rural areas the deer have not declined in number. They can easily live in small pockets or boroughs of shrubs and trees.

With this population and the help of scientists M.L. Walls it has now been established that killing of deer, the does and the bucks is easier and what the states really needed is proper management and proper tracking of killed deer. This has led to a lot of regulations when you hunt for deer but more on that later in the posts.
